Ukraine Lifts Hungary Travel Advisory After Opposition Election Victory
The update was shared by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on a social media platform, where he explained that the earlier guidance discouraging travel had been lifted due to what he described as the “"end of the election campaign in Hungary."”
He further indicated that Ukraine expects a broader improvement in relations following the vote outcome, stating: “We expect that in the political dimension, not only the consular dimension, the election results will lead to the normalization of relations. Ukraine is ready to work towards achieving such a goal,” Sybiha said.
He also interpreted the election results as reflecting the aspirations of Hungarian voters, saying they demonstrated a preference for “live in peace, security and prosperity,” as well as for a “truly independent Hungary, which is part of a united and free Europe, and not a sphere of influence of Moscow.”
According to reports, the opposition Tisza Party secured a dominant share of the vote, winning 69.35% and obtaining 138 seats with nearly all ballots counted in the parliamentary election held on Sunday.
Following the results, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban conceded defeat and stated: "We will serve our nation from the opposition," signaling the end of his long tenure in government after 16 years in power.
