Hungary inks deal to import two billion cubic meters from US
“Today we have reached an important milestone in American-Hungarian energy cooperation by signing a contract for 400 million cubic metres of LNG a year,” Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on the US social media platform X.
The deal, concluded between Hungary’s state-owned energy company MVM and US firm Chevron, will deliver LNG shipments totaling 2 billion cubic meters over five years. Szijjarto emphasized the country’s strategy of diversifying energy sources and transport routes to secure the lowest possible prices.
Hungary has repeatedly stressed the importance of energy security and has opposed halting purchases of Russian oil, highlighting its commitment to maintaining multiple supply channels.
